well,,,,i don't give tip to waiters( as everybody gives them),,,,i only give tip to guard standing outside the restaurant hardly $1
not even reading the whole thread on this one. I've worked in the F&B business for over 10 years before switching over to full time IM and SEO services. In the US you tip minimum of 20% no matter what. If your server was not knowledgeable about the menu and drink offered 15% is fine, if they straight up didn't give a shit 10% (everyone has bad days). You server is NOT responsible if it took forever to get your food, if you didn't like the food, if you're having a bad day! In the States servers and bartenders make half the national minimum wage in most states. Leaving a 20% gratuity is a tacit understanding that takes place between server and patron. If you leave less then that, you are actually robbing the server of their wages, because guess what, based on their food and liqueur sales, they have to use your tip money to tip out the Kitchener, the bar, and the bus staff. If you have a bad night at a restaurant, it's not your servers fault, just don't bring you business back there! End of rant. Adjust for your countries acceptable rate of tipping accordingly. But for the US, it's minimum 20% If you can't afford the tip, Don't Dine out.Again worked 10+years in Food & Beverage across US and UK in every possible position.
Well at least here minimum wage is like $8-10 an hour (not really sure to be honest) - but I know minimum wage for a waiter/waitress is like $2. So every establishment takes advantage of this because they know their staff basically works for tips.
So for the big tippers, lets say you go out with your girlfriend to a nice restaurant. Not very fancy, but nice. And the bill is around 100-120 euros (150 dollars), would you leave 30-40 dollars for the waiter then?
