How much do you have to earn to be able to live in US?

The US is a huge country... To be able to live vastly varies from place to place.. living in a suburb of Wisconsin ain't the same as living in Manhattan... The federal minimum wage is a little north of $7 if I recall correctly. According to a formula developed by MIT the practical minimum wage to be able to live in so cal, for instance is closer to $12... Of course this is BHW so you just need to wait for the broke noobs that claim you can't live with less than 10K a month to be able to pay your rent... 
15k a month - no less
Or , skip the titty bars and you will need a lot less
I used to live in South Florida - a fairly large house for rent, a small car and a pick up truck.
Monthly expenses for house & utlilities, car ins., gas, food and some nick nacks came to like 2 k.
But i am sure i could have done without the car and a much smaller house - the house i had only because of the huge garage.

But he was quoting Phoenix, AZ. The states aren't all the same, and the cities and towns within each state aren't even the same. It's all about location. Take Rhode Island for example. It's the smallest state in the USA. You would need millions to live in some parts of Newport, RI. 30 miles away in the poor section of Providence, RI, and you can buy a home for $30k. That is how vastly different even the smallest state in our country is.

Living in Brisbane City, Australia in a pretty sweet high rise costs me around $5k/month. A few years ago I was living on $1.8k/month. I guess this would be similar to places in the US. US$1.5k/month seems reasonable for subsistence. Probably less if you're sharing.

I guess, $1200 can be one minute's life in Vegas. Though, I haven't been to the US, I have heard stories and have deposited money to some in Vegas emergency, where a couple friends called me to deposit money, as they had lost the slots in one game of gambling.
I would have called a number and enjoyed the whole night with how many every bitches I could have got for $1500, which I deposited at the time.

That will even vary greatly. Some people buy only organic and that can be expensive. Some people buy non organic, regular groceries but a lot of boxed foods. That is less expensive than all organic but more expensive than making everything from scratch. I cook and bake from scratch which is a lot cheaper than boxed foods.

If you can't make it in the US, then you always have welfare to fall back on. Free cellphone, free internet and cable, no utilities to pay.

And fear leaving your house because of all the crime around you. Welfare is not appealing like some make it out to be. Most section 8 houses are located in the worst parts of the city. Have you ever been on welfare in the US?
