I spent a good part of yesterday creating a gmail account, and social media accounts to be used for a future project.

I used a VPN that when I test, it seems to cover my tracks

I also created a new user account on my windows 7 computer so that the browser was fresh from past projects, and to have a clean password manager for the different websites I will be creating accounts on.

but, when i was on google maps, it pinpointed exactly where my house was.

How did Google figure this out? Was it because I was using chrome, and Chrome sent Google data not within the usual environment data?

You have location services on. Also make sure you don't log into your account on any other device without a vpn.

What VPN did you use? Some VPN leaks your IP

Google is a multi billion dollar company just focused on stealing and selling your data (not Alphabet). If you want to use Chrome but without Google or Microsoft, use Chromium.

Sincerely,
The Data Scientist
Isn't chromium made by a google dev?

When I got my new laptop a few years back, I had nothing in my browser, no search history, no cookies.
I created a new email, and then a new Facebook.
I shared one Facebook post. After I went to Google and the first search displayed me an ad which was the subject of the Facebook post I shared. Either google got that info from my Browser or from FB. I was using chrome and suspected it was from the browser but have no clue.

@Binkmaster your probably on PC, but if you have Google Maps mobile app this you can see alot more of your footprint.

1. Open Google Maps
2. Click on your profile icon top right
3. Select 'Help & Feedback
4. Select 'Help'
5. Select 'Send feedback'
6. Select 'View System Logs'.

This is just a little bit of the info they have access too for mobile. This doesn't include their geo and ID detection or any of the other more advanced footprinting algos used.

In your case, VPN is not enough as it only hides your IP(maybe not if it's a bad VPN). That's just 1 data point used amongst thousands to identify you.

Same computer used using normal Chrome? G can easily see your computer specs memory/storage, screen res, mac address, what apps are running, battery, extensions installed, ect.

You are better off using a mobile phone connected to public wifi than a VPN and then find new VPNs and test logging into that account from a variety of services. Go into the Suspisicous Login Security Alert email messages inside the Gmail and cross reference the IP G says. If its not local you are good.

Yes, and that is open source. So, it can be (and is) audited. Google then puts garbage on top of it and calls it chrome.
How can anyone be so sure that google dev did not put hidden tracker that transmits data to google? Maybe the current version has hidden trackers?

By reading the code? You can always “make” from source code (generally 2 commands. Not that difficult to do) if you want to be 100% sure. The hash should also match if you build the same code.

Because its open source, you and anybody can check the code. That doesn't mean that the dev hasn't put trackers in but, but if they did it is very likely that they would get caught.

You do know that there are people who can decompile programs, as well as snoop through network data, Right? ;)

For that reason alone I prefer using Brave browser.
Yeah the browser that injects links in websites and was built on top of chromium. Awesome choice, not.
