It all depends what you want to do...
Normally people use content to provide useful info about the product/service/subject they are promoting, as well as using for seo...this usually comes in the form of articles...
Regarding your template, im not sure what you mean, do you mean a template for the theme or the article??...There's loads of themes to choose from..
If your reffering to the content, theres a plugin called related posts, which will look for content related to whatever keywords you supply...

i got #1 on natural health keyword and my visitors got around 1k visitors in only 1 week but after that going to sandbox
this is happened too to my other new site and will go out from sandbox at Sept 8th 2009

AFAIK google will sandbox any domain that grow too much fast, not the natural way.

my new site is natural
i'm not doing link building and only put my site link to my other site which already passed sandbox and suddenly the visitors increased in 1 night and keep increasing in 1 week after that day by day my visitors had decreased and i look to my stats and there is no more organic visitors from search engine anymore specially google to my new site so i had checking it and found my new site had going to sandbox
i'm not doing any BH action on my new site, just natural way and putting the link to 1 of my old site
but from this experience i learning something including how to increasing site visitors drastically in 1 night using GH method
sandboxed means that google will not show your website in its search. I think it lasts until you resubmit a sitemap to google that they like.
Just make sure you dont grow your website to fast since that is one way I always hear about that google will get you on.
You can make a new domain rank high in google in a few days as long as you dont grow it to fast.

I can say that I'm lazy to get started, so I think it's better to start with one article than the Hello World default post and then build my own post by post every single day. I think once a day is enough.
