How much can you earn as a video editor?

There are a few questions I would like to know about freelance remote video editing, so if there is anyone familiar with this industry, I would very much appreciate any tips . My minimum goal with video editing is to reach at least $10/h and I would like to do it within 6 months. I would like to edit montages, trailers, and music videos the most, but I wouldn't mind editing vlogs, sketches, weddings, tiktok shorts, or really anything that is popular on YouTube. The things I would like to know are following:
1. Is my 6 month plan reasonable?
2. What are some niches I can focus on?
3. How high is the entry-barrier?
4. Am I delusional if I want to make this my career, and aim for couple K a month?

Again, I would really appreciate any insights, and thanks for those who took the time to read this.

With how available all video editing courses & software has become, I’d say $10 is on the low end of what you should be able to do.

One way to gauge how your portfolio should look is to create an available job that people can apply to on LinkedIn, Indeed, Upwork, & Freelancer.

Then take a look at all of the incoming portfolios & resumes. That should be able to give you a general scope of how modern portfolios look in that industry.

Thanks this is really encouraging and the upwork tip is big brain

If you want to look for clients on upwork and fiverr you will need more than 6 months.

this have a very broad range. depending on what is your skill level? is it just normal editing, or with skill to custom made 3d effect.
also depend on your connection i know t hose do normal editing paid $100/video. and other paid $150/month for fultime job editing without big skill difference.
but if you mean for upwork and fiverr, than you i suggest you start improving your skill and create yt channel for it to help advertise. buying review etc also help. basicly you need to promote yourself since a marketing is big factor now in both of those platform.
