I spend most of my spare time of my day browsing facebook and sharing memes , wether it is at work, college, gym, pooping , etc. I've always wondered what do people gain by spending time editing daily situations from the media or politics or whatever topic is trending atm.
Apart from monetizing their FB pages, how else they earn money, is it really profitable to be a Meme creator?

Not really from meme creation, it would take a lot of time but any traffic can be monetized, fx you can grow and sell reddit accounts using memes

By sending traffic to your site, @Big Ron was doing this.
But some meme makers do it for fun or for other reason like expressing their views.

To gain real followers and then influence. With influence, you can sell merch, promote pages, links... .

Hey, thanks for the shoutout. Yeah, so...it is one more thing that draws traffic, right? I made a dedicated meme page on my blog. Then I spaced each meme out on it's own page, like most fan-based websites do. That way, you get a page refresh (ad refresh) every time the visitor goes to a new meme.

Theia Post Slider for WP is the plugin for it.

I also put my blog URL on the meme itself in case it gets shared (which they do).

Then I post the meme on FB and Reddit. If I have time, I link the meme blog page along with the image. If not, the image still has the URL imprinted on it.

I personally created about half the memes.

Maybe you can consider creating and selling meme merchandise, such as t-shirts, mugs, etc.
OR
Offer custom memes to businesses, organizations, or individuals who are willing to pay for them.

Can't think of anything else.

Once you have grown the page, you can do paid posts on the page.
