How many years you had internet connection ?

THis thread not make any sense, as almost every house have internet service for last 2 decades.

That's not true! First of all, 2 decades ago is roughly the time when the Internet first made headlines and started being commercialized by ISP-s. Second of all, it was widely available in Tier 1 countries - other countries (especially the third world ones) started offering Internet to consumers 10 years later or the prices were so ridiculous that no one could afford it (imagine paying $100/month for 1 Mbit/sec when the average wage in the country is less than $300/month).

I'm talking from experience here. 12 years ago, when I was still a kid, we had a 56K modem connection. It took that shit 15-20 minutes to download a simple song, assuming your line wouldn't drop of course, which was never the case. Internet was a luxury at that time. Everyone was on Internet cafe centers - there were more Internet cafes (almost full of people at any time especially evenings) than there were bakeries and grocery stores combined which feed the entire population.

10 years later, same city, you can barely find 4-5 Internet cafes and every family has Internet in their homes by now. It starts from $12/month for an 8 Mbit/sec connection up to $100 for a dedicated 100/100 line, which is OK for most non-tech savvy people, but looks like a joke when compared to Bulgaria for example.

Nevertheless, don't always assume everyone in the world had Internet just because you did. The country I'm talking about isn't even the poorest in Europe or in the entire world, so I'm pretty sure there must be even worse cases than this.

Chiming in here: I got online first in 1991 via my university. My first home internet was in 1995, glorious dialup via AOL :D

11 years, and still the same speed 2Mb

That is what you get for living in a village.

Take it from me especially the neighborhood I am living in I am actually fortunate to have internet connection in my home even though it' just a 2mb wireless line (antenna) (have it now for 3years) and I must say shit it's expensive. Installation cost me $200 (that average about 1 months paycheck for the ordinary factory worker) monthly cost I pay $35 for 2mb download speed and upload (don't even want to go there) uncapped internet connection.

Most people here run tunneling software and proxies with modems bypassing service providers connections for free internet which last maybe few weeks and then get shut down.

Not every country or neighborhood have the luxury of fast reliable internet at affordable prices like the first world countries. In my neighborhood we'll never have the luxury of landlines or fibre connections cause we live in a (rural area) it will be to expensive for service providers to install such luxury.

CompuServe way back around 1990/1991. Wow! Hadn't really thought about it until I read the question.

10 years now, i need internet because of the kind of work i do.
