How many sites are too many for shared hosting?

Hi,

I know there are a lot of varibles to this but how many websites are normally hosted on one shared server using the same IP?

Would different servers within the same company have the same IP or would they be different?

I ask as I was looking at some hosting providers using a tool on here (cannot find it now) and it stated that there was 160,000 websites using that IP.

Usually no problem with IP, though if you want to buy one shared account, buy a reseller account so your domains not share the same environment and resources. Only time it may be in favor to have different IP is if you build a PBN network.

There is no fixed number for this. It depends how many cores you have memory limits and apache or litespeed.

That's rarely the case. Reseller hosting accounts are shared hosting with WHM access (if we are talking about cPanel resellers). That means you share the same environment with the same IP address (if you don't buy a new IP address).

As many as the server's spec can hold
if we are just talking straight website per IP, honestly, it does not matter.
If it did, the entire interwebs will revolt agains't google.

If it's on a different machine (whether its physical or virtual), then it's also up to the provider, sometimes it could have a different IP assigned.
Also, on the same server, it is usually possible to purchase a dedicated IP for an upgraded cost.
Dedicated IPs are IPs only used by 1 client and noone else at any given time.

The more the better, to blur your websites into the interwebs honestly.
Also, you may have to consider, some websites will have proxy/mask to make itharder to see their true hosting/IP aswell, such as using cloudflare intergations.

Yes, they share the IP, but that was not the point I made, the domains are isolated from each other in their environment as separate accounts with their own resources.

There wont be any issue with how many accounts you host on a single IP as long as that IP belonged to your hosting account, as if its shared with other websites too, then might be some website do spamming or any other illegal activity and google or the mail servers block that IP, it can effect all other domains hosted on that IP too, rest there are no limits on how many accounts you can host on a single IP, its more about how much RAM, hard drive, CPU is available at the core server or the VPS.

It depends on the resources available, but typically more than 4-5 sites may be too many for shared hosting.
