I'm gonna chime in here with my thoughts but keep in mind I started a year ago, dipped in it a few months with decent results, kinda abandoned it and came back to it the past couple weeks. I've learned a lot in the past couple weeks, and much has changed.
That being said, I was getting more than 1k+ UV's/day with 2-3 moneysite pins/day spread out over about 12 group boards (other's group boards), and I had less than 1k followers then. I would pin normal stuff in between too, maybe 20 pins a day or so? Maybe more.
These days things have definitely changed. I get way more repins, and way less views, but I haven't been giving it hell quite yet. I also am doing mostly the other people's boards thing, which pinterest is giving less weight to overall. But I have some suggestions.
With all those followers and a successful group board, you're doing something right already. If I were you, I would look in your group board, and check out the pins that have the most repins. Check out your notifications, figure out which ones are getting the most repins. Look for similar pins like that to repin. Repin quality shit. Quality shit on pinterest usually isn't stuff you like personally, you have to go with the flow of what people there do. On my favorite account, I get messages often from high powered pinners and bloggers telling me they love my pins. Search for boards in your chosen niche that have a shitload of followers, and spend a decent amount of time scrolling through it, and take note of the style and wording of the pins that have a LOT of repins. You'll start seeing trends. Beware of artificially inflated stats on pins and spammy comments.
Make EVERY repin a winner, no matter where it goes. If the pin does not have a favicon, at least click on it and hover over visit site and see if the pin leads to what looks like a legit relevant url before you repin it. If you pin more winners in the right places then you will naturally get more followers, and more traffic.
Make witty comments on popular pins. Comment and repin and like recent pins from big brands in your niche. If you are running pretty legit looking then don't be afraid to add something like "follow @me for more great stuff!" on a few pins per day.
I don't know what niche you're in, but check popular pins in your particular niche, and check for pins where people are asking where they can buy something they see in a pin that does not have a url. If you have that item, shorten a link to it with goo.gl and post it in the comments for that person.
Most of these aren't things you need to do hardcore or all the time, but I think it helps "naturalize" your account and it definitely increases your long-term reach. These pins stick around forever, so doing little things once in a while will add up over time. The most important is recognizing winning pins that haven't been pinned to death already and pinning them.
One little secret of mine is what I call "necropinning", lol. Find a successful board/pinner/brand in your niche and scroll ALLLLLL the way back down thru their shit and find oldies that went viral. Sure as shit, if you repin them, they become new again to all the people that have never seen them. I have no clue why other people don't do this. The big timers do, calling it a throwback etc.
Hope this helps, good luck to you
