How many links in a 500 word article?

Title says it all, how many links should I be placing in my 500 word articles?If more than one should the links be pointing to the same page or is it okay if one points to the home page and others point to inner pages?

I wouldn't recommend to go over one. Just leaving unnecessary footprints for Google.

I recommend 5
1.Your Website with Anchor keyword.
2.One Government Link according to your niche(Wikipedia,encyclopedia etc)
3.Your website Image Link.
4.You tube Video Link of your website
5.Google+ Profile Link

I recommend 1-2 links enough for 500 words content. It's looks like very natural.
Maybe, Please be place only 1 your target URL and 1 authority link URL (Wikipedia, Magazine Sites, YouTube) etc..

You can link two links mate for home page and inner page (or) for your site and any authority sites (or) combination of both three links. But one link per article is safer i think...

Be a Natural when you will link to your content.. D Resourceful link always google appreciate. But as a marketer, don't over 3 links. Its best idea.

No reason to go above one.

Imagine how many web 2.0 properties that are out there with a link to wikipedia and a link to some 'money site'. Now when all your back links have this similar pattern it is a tell tale sign that something is not right. And when so many people use this approach it becomes a clear pattern that Google can de-valuate at any time...

Go with one. I works and leaves no pattern.

Try to use 2-3 URL.

1. Your Keyword Based.
2. Wiki or any higher stuff.
3. High PR URL.

2 - 3 links would be the best fit IMO. One from the home page or inner pages and then the other from relevant high authority site.
