I have always been curious in regard to Ranking.

How Much Time & Links Does it Take to Get the Average Article to Rank?

( Assume everything is average: the competition, the keyword difficulty, domain age, etc)

There is no 'average' competition, keyword difficulty etc. This is an impossible question to answer.

Do not mind about number of links. Make links from high PR and relavant pages/articles.

Number of links is based on PR. So use high PR for backlink process.

If your keyword competition is average (assuming say 20 - 30 comp) and top 10 competitors have mixture of title/url/h2, it will not take long with qood quality high PR backlinks.

It's not the QUANTITY that matters but the QUALITY

One solid niche-specific link from an extremely HIGH AUTHORITY site can take you much further than tons of Web 2.0 crap links or dozens of mediocre links.

With a keyword competitiveness below 40 , It should not be too hard.
Find a good SEO service on here save yourself some time and you should be ranking
In other words for how long it takes on average i would 3-4 weeks sometimes more and sometimes less

Number of links doesn't a fact here for all . A huge links must better , but you must build links on good and useful websites. Also remember about your content category that matches with that sites.
