How many keywords in one article?

I'm writing lots of articles for my authority site. How many keywords should I include in each? My keywords are related to one big theme and I want these keywords to rank my website. So far, I'm putting in five keywords related to the article.

More than the number of keywords, I'd look at the density of cumulative keyword usage. I do this for all my articles; focus on one primary keyword per article, and add as many LSI or natural keywords as possible in the article; even if those secondary or LSI kws are just used once.

So focusing on one keyword will help it rank faster instead of multiple ones?

I do one keyphrase per article. Ranking for a keyword (quickly) is almost impossible. Look into keyphrases like this:
REALLY BAD: loans
BAD: auto loans
OK: bad credit auto loans
GOOD: bad credit auto loans florida

The niche is just an example.

Ok thanks for the advice. I'm going to write out my batch of articles, around 150 then I"m going to manually add in the keywords.

I tend to write a different article for each keyword. Then I sprinkle in a number of LSI keywords in order to boost my trust and authority with Google. Then backlink inner pages as much as the homepage (that is important)

@brainstorm1 by backlinking back to home page do you mean just putting your homepage's link in your article?

For example, you have your homepage http://www.example.com. Your article is http://www.example.com/myarticle

Do you just put http://www.example.com in http://www.example.com/myarticle?

I would put main site in article site. Increase site's inner links, what are disadvantage of this mothed?

Using 3 keyword for each article. 3 keyword are the most effective for a article. You should use 2-3 keyword for you article.

I think its depends on how long your article is!!!
if u write an article with 400 words you can use 2 keywords but i suggest you to use keywords very smartly like once you use ur specific keyword and another time u can used synonyms of the same keywords...
and if u write an article with more then 500 words yo can smartly use 3 keywords but again try to use synonyms or use LSI techniques.. and you will definetly get good result..

Its better to build your article around 1 keywords as primary one and then add some secondary keywords relevant to same primary keywords.
E.g. 1. Freelance projects (Primary)
2. best freelance projects (secondary)
3. get more freelance projects (secondary)
4. top freelance projects site (secondary)
