Hey Guys

since I started IMing full time my inner clock really got messed up, I sleep at least 10 hours a day, and when I wake up I feel very tired and I always almost fall asleep on my computer because the nature of what we do involve no physical activity and therefor my body feels like sleeping all day because it's not being used.

Just wanna know how many hours do you guys sleep per night, and what are your methods for sleeping less and maintaining a high level of energy and focus

Go to bed around midnight everyday, wake up at 7am in the week. Sleeping too much will make you lose energy and feel more tired, a good remedy is 1 litre of strong coffee every morning :)

you need to start doing some exercise and have a healthy diet.
for me when I feel really tired even after a long sleep I take some suppliments that will help me level up my energy

also energy drinks sucks they never work for me

I believe your eating habits and exercise play a big role when it comes to being over tired. Try cutting off your sleeping patterns to maximum 8 hours of rest, and if you're feeling tired during the day take a quick 20 minute nap. Even if you rest with your eyes closed during the day for a few minutes it works wonders for your body.

7-8 hours a day, if you can, have the same schedule for sleep and waking up every day. Do some physical exercise, get off your computer, go out and breathe some fresh air once in a while. Play with your dog, etc.

About 7-8 hrs. I do a lot of physical activity tho but when i wake up i still need an extra hr to even get out of the bed haha . Then just make a big jug of coffee and off i go :D

For the last 10 years, since my senior year in high school, I've been sleeping everyday from 4am (sometimes 5am) to 9am. I wake up naturally without an alarm clock. Never drank any coffee, or energy drinks, never will. I always feel well rested when I wake up.

Then again, I have a high metabolism and I weigh 125 lbs.

I know what you mean my sleep schedule has been all over the place for a
long time now, and I have not been able to figure out how to get it back right.

I agree, this is exactly what happens to me, I don't know how to fix it haha..

I sleep about 7 hrs to 13 hrs everyday. I can wake up pretty much anytime and stay awake pretty well haha. I've taken a class on Human Factours and it seems that our body has a free running cycle of ~24-25 hours, where certain hormones trigger sleepiness. You can always alternate it, but it gets pretty difficult to recover your original cycle.

I am a huge believer in the benefits of staying healthy.
Develop a schedule, and follow it strictly (though I allow myself the weekends to do whatever I want).
Wake up at 8am, eat healthy breakfast with vitamin shake, go to gym, start work a 10 and go until I get the job done (taking several breaks throughout the day), go to sleep at 12am.
Getting enough sleep is important.
If your body isn't feeling energized, your mind probably isn't as sharp as it could be.
Additionally, structure typically increases my quality of life. I find that when I sleep from 5am-4pm and displace my schedule by hours every day and sleep too much or too little I get depressed and less productive.

Give yourself a regimen and stick to it. You can still be free with a schedule.

I go back and forth between about 4 and 8 incrementally. Stress is a factor, as the others have mentioned food/exercise et all is the best remedy. Barring that some good drugs help too. :)

For the past, I dunno, 7 years or so, I have been going to sleep between 4-6am and waking up at 4pm. This past week I decided I needed to break free from what I think is Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I take melatonin 5mg (could probably take less) at 9PM and try to hit the hay around 11-12. Major trick is to try and wake up and go to sleep at the same time every night.

As for energy, I'm on a high fat, low carb diet. It actually gives you more energy once your body adapts to it. It's pretty awesome.

Cheers,

As of lately I was going to bed anywhere from 3-4 am and waking up at 10, but I've been getting myself back into the habit of waking up between 7 and 8 and going to bed whenever I feel tired.

As other people mentioned, the best way to avoid being extra tired from too much sleep is to work out and keep a healthier diet.

I always sleep with my REM cycles. I know for a fact that I have an REM cycle that starts at 10pm. If I sleep at 10pm, I wake up at 4am, well rested. But I don't like sleeping at 10pm anyway, so I sleep on my other REM cycle, 4am to 9am. My REM cycles last 4 to 5 hours, and I always wake up at the end of them, always on time, without the help of an alarm clock.

Funny thing though, if I don't "catch" my REM cycle by the time it starts (5:30am at the latest), then I won't be able to fall asleep until the next cycle, which is around 7am, and then I'd be forced to sleep until 10 to 11am. So while I'd be waiting to fall asleep, my body would be aching in mild pain and serious fatigue as I'm trying to go to sleep but my brain won't release the chemicals that put my consciousness to sleep.
