How many backlinks would you buy in order to start moving a domain's ranking?
(for low search volume keywords)


10 PBNs? Visible or not visible to backlinks checkers?

From my experience, there isn’t really a fixed number. For low search volume keywords, sometimes just a few strong and relevant links can already start moving rankings. I usually focus more on the quality and relevance of the sites rather than trying to hit a specific number.


A couple of solid guest posts or contextual links from niche-related sites can sometimes do more than a large batch of weaker links.
 
For low volume keywords, 5-10 solid guest posts on relevant sites usually does the job , PBNs work but the risk/reward isn't worth it anymore unless you own them yourself. Mix it up: 2-3 niche edits, a few guest posts, and maybe 1 press release for brand signals, that combo has moved rankings for me on low-comp terms consistently. Visible or not doesn't matter much, Google finds most links eventually anyway.
 
No fixed number, go to Ahrefs and do a search for the Top 5 competitors for the given keywords. There's a big difference between the industries.

But as a general rule of Thumb, you need some good Guest Posts, before you can buy PBN backlinks. Add 'foundational' links if the website is new.

Honestly, there’s no exact number of backlinks that will “move rankings” because Google doesn’t work like a simple math formula. For low search volume keywords, sometimes even 1 or 2 strong, relevant links can push a page up, but in other cases you can build 10+ links and still see little movement if your site is new or the competition is already strong.


As for buying links, PBNs might give a quick boost, but they’re risky and usually don’t hold long-term. Hidden links are even worse because it’s basically asking for trouble. A press release also rarely moves rankings unless it gets picked up by real websites.


If your goal is safe progress, I’d rather put money into a few real guest posts on niche-related sites, spaced out naturally, instead of blasting 10 PBN links at once. Quality links + patience usually beats “more links” every time.

For low volume keywords even a few strong relevant links can move rankings if the page intent and on page are already solid. I would focus on 3 to 5 real niche relevant links first and only scale more if impressions start moving because quality beats raw numbers here
 
In my experience, 10 to 30 niche-relevant and high-quality backlinks is often sufficient to start moving a domain's ranking. Do remember that when it comes to backlinks as far as SEO impact goes, quality matters over quantity.
So, high-authority links (DR 60+) are more effective than hundreds of low-quality links. Wish you success with ranking your website(s).
 
honestly for low competition keywords u dont need a massive blast. 10 PBNs right away on a new domain is a huge footprint risk.. id say start with 2-3 high quality guest posts from sites that actually have real traffic.

It will be a Test & Go Process for me! First we look at the page 1 top 5 competitors and then put a few links every now and then to understand what links work in the niche!
Usually handful of guest posts along with Foundational links do the trick, If it is a grey hat niche, then a PBN solely built for this campaign gives us a solid Boost!
New Domain should always be filled with lots of content first to improve Topical Authority!

don't go overboard with 10 pbns right away, especially on a new domain. it's a massive footprint risk and google will flag it. if the competition is low, just grab 2-3 guest posts from sites that actually have real organic traffic. quality over quantity always wins for a clean start.
 
tbh there’s no fixed number… for low volume kws even a handful of good links can move the needle. i’d rather go for 3–5 solid, relevant links (guest posts/niche edits) than blasting 10 random PBNs.

and yeah, i keep things looking natural… no need to hide links, just make sure they’re from real-looking sites and build it up slowly.
