Backlinking is not an easy process. First of all, quality is important. You must take backlinks from related sites and also check authority of each sites where from you are planning to have a backlink. I believe, having a good backlink from an authority website is better than having hundreds of backlink. Also, be carefully about the anchor text you are using.
