Its not the number but the type that kill a domain. If you build identic links with static identical anchors on the same type of sites, google will easily identify them as manipulative and will ban your site.
It is completely normal for a site to get thousands of links...and even bursts of hundreds of thousands.
Imagine a news story being told on CNN or a major news site that link to a third website. The story gets reposted, the burst of traffic and people start blogging and linking etc.
Important is the link pool to be diverse and "natural".

The way the question is phrased sounds like someone trying to hurt someone else. I once thought about doing that until I realised that its my money and who knows what google will do to the site.
My advice, make your linkbuilding steady and consistent. There is no max and no minimum if you are diversifying your links and also consistent. Don't order an SB blast one day then never do it for some 2 months. That will lead to trouble and heartache. I know that from experience.

Link velocity is a common factor when new domains drop out the index. Build your links consistently and avoid spammy AA links.
It's safer to do social bookmarks and build high PR web 2.0 links from sites like Squidoo, Vox, Blogger, etc first, then introduce profile and blog comment backlinks a month or two in.
Also a good tip - Google's looking at registration periods on domains now. If your domain expires in 4 years vs the minimum 1 year, Google takes it you're in for the long haul (i.e., not just a spammer).

It means you direct ScrapeBox to comment and backlink directly to your "money site", or main site which you are promoting.
For example, you program ScrapeBox to comment all over the web, and each comment contains a hyperlink pointing directly back to your main site.

I've heard people say this before, but never seen a source for this information (since Google obviously does not publish their algo). Where did you hear this bit about domain registration length from?

Yes 45673 is the exact number lol .
You might gt sandboxed , but who really knows if there is a sandbox or not but you wont get de-indexed .

this is very true. I see sites ranking 1st with only 1 year of domain reg while I've been setting up sites with 2 to 4 year reg. link velocity is must though.
