How many backlinks a month for "new" site?

Hi all,

My website (in sig) is still relatively new (coming upto 2 months old) and I am wondering what is the ideal amount of backlinks that should be built for the site per month? I obviously want some decent backlinks, but I don't want to arouse suspicions with search engines like Google. I would like to maximise efforts of link building, but keeing in mind with the big G.

15-20 constantly. Before you do any backlinks i advice you to buy a link on a high PR TRUSTED website that has FEW LINKS on the page! Start with 15-20 and don't get links from a bad pages (Pages with many links or pages that links to a bad websites).

It doesn't really matter as long as you are consistent when you build them. If you are conservative 10-20/day is fine.

Also, be sure to focus on different methods of backlinks. This will help with your overall rankings and traffic.

Finally, I think your poll is a little misleading. If people's traffic/rankings drop after using methods here in BHW, that is 100% the responsibility of that person as has absolutely nothing to do with BHW.

Cheers for the advice . Am trying to be careful and not link to bad neighbourhoods like linkfarms etc. I have joined a handful of automatic traffic exchange sites and am starting to question whether they are link farms or not. It is hard to tell but am keeping a regular eye on my stats.

I have sent some quote requests to a handful of sites asking how much it would cost for a backlink to one of their high P.R sites.

I also know that if there are too many links already on a given page then I won't get too much linkjuice flowing onto my site, however I am aware some webmasters put the nofollow attribute onto some links so that could determine how much linkjuice a site gets: none or "some".

If anyone knows of web design/development related sites that offer a high P.R backlink please add them to this thread and pm me. Am trying to earn some $$$ so I can get the ball rolling
