Is any more than 2 backlink tiers more effort than they're worth?

I've made link building a diagram with knowledge collated from BHW and it's got 3 tiers.

Tier 1 - Original Content - Web 2.0s, Articles etc
    Tier 2 - Spun Content - Web 2.0s etc
Tier 3 - Link blasts with UD / Xrumer

Would it just be as effective with 2 tiers?

Tier 1 - Original Content - Web 2.0s, Articles etc
Tier 2 - Link blasts with UD / Xrumer

It would certainly be a lot less work.

I've never tried tier linking, so that's also something I would like to know about. thread subbed.

would like to hear from the SERP change perspective.

    3rd tier is overdoing it.
I'd even change your strategy to focus on high quality links first and foremost, then blending in Web 2.0's to make a natural looking profile.

Well the spun content / relevant backlinks in tier 2 are much more powerfull than the tier 3 links because tier 3 is not relevant to your keyword, so why would you cut them out?

I like this 3 tier strategy because with tier 2 you create loads of contextual backlinks to your tier 1, which consist of manual backlinks. And than I just blast all my tier 2 links with scrapebox to index them / give them more linkjuice.

    So in short:
Tier 1: Manual backlinks - Extremely High Quality - Low amount
Tier 2: Automatic backlinks - Relevevant - Medium Quality - Medium amount
Tier 3: Automatic spam backlinks - not relevant - Large amount

The third tier is often just about getting the 2nd tier indexed with a little juice. You generally have to go one tier deeper than you 'need' for that reason.

Thanks for the replies all. I'll stick with 3 tiers then as above.

I do have a diagram but I've created a thread elsewhere about it so I'll keep it out of here.

    Cheers

You need to keep in mind that the second tier gets indexed by the 3 tier links. Not to mention that the 2nd tier links get a little juice from the 3 tier. If you get rid of the 3rd tier, there is the chance that your 2nd tier links do not get indexed, and this is an important part of the link tier.

I understand that. But I was suggesting that I can remove tier 2 all together, and have my indexing tier 3 just point at tier 1 instead and skip tier 2 (tier 1 being Web 2.0s, Articles etc)

having multiple tier is always good, If you plan to get some traffic from tier1 unique properties then having a third tier is good, otherwise you can utilize two tiers

Yeah...first you have to create manual backlinks...then you can start using software for automated backlinks! :)
