How many back-links can I create per day?

There is no exact count, if its new site you are good at 5 to 10 back links a day. Just don't go with bulk like 100 or 1000 a day.

I would start real slow with 2-5 links per day.

there is no number. The website real-backlinks.com recommend to create 20 backlinks per day, but it's only a recommendation.
Because even if you create a backlink, it doesn't mean the backlink will be scrap by search engine bot.
If you site is new, create few backlinks, and increase when your site is growing.
