i started a new blog about a month ago and so far its been doing decent. i have managed to get about 80 people following me on G+ (legit) and I get a few hundred views a day (peak was about 860 a few days ago). I do have writers on staff but I feel that I am published too many articles. Sometimes we publish like 3-5 articles a day. I do write many articles myself but since I am busy, I have hired other writers but obviously, these people get paid. I pay about $4 an article and they do a very good job but i have managed to rack up a $60+ expense on a site that has made about $6 in adsense. I do have some money to sped on the site (it takes money to make money) but I don't want just throw it around.

I have invested some money on some kick-ass fiverr gigs and I am ranking for about 5 of my top 13 keywords. I was ranking #5 at one point for my keyword but i have no idea why I am now at 57. I think I am doing the google dance but nevertheless, I am starting to rank already. my major competitor is really just one site and he has been around for over a year now and he's only ranking for about 3 of the keywords. yes he is ranking higher than me on those keywords but many keywords he doesn't even rank at all.

From my understanding, his entire job is only to run the site and with that, he publishes about 10+ articles a day (now that he knows he has competition he publishes more sometimes). He has a pretty big following as well in terms of fb likes and g+ followers (about 7k). I honestly don't have the means to write 10 articles a day and though I could allow my writers to publish articles, I would easily be spending $12-40 a day on a site that makes me cents/day. So here is my question:

How many articles should I be writing a day? When is it okay to start writing more? There is no use of writing 5+ articles a day if not that many people are actually reading it. I know you need to have good quality content (which we do) but do I really need to be dropping this much time and money on this new of a site? I mean, I will publish at LEAST one article a day but is that enough? Should I wait to rank at least in the first couple pages on google before publishing more? my highest rank is 57 and lowest is 91.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Please let me know. Thanks!

Try adding 1 article every 3 days or so - no need to overdo it

I would recommend 1 quality article a day of length exceeding 1000 words.

Make it a day or one in 2 days. Your writing too many articles. Unless your a news blog..

I think 1 a day should be fine, but you could mix where they are going, i.e article of quality content and then article with blog content/reveiws/interaction

actually i am a news blog but we cover product reviews. i should mention that i actually want this site to become something successful. i am not in it for just the money. not sure if that makes any difference in your suggestions.

I think 1-2 article a day that's fine but it should be high quality unique content.

could you elaborate a bit on what 'high quality' means? all of our articles are original and in perfect english. nothing is spun. we talk about relevant things that have happened that day (never old content). i do need to look at what SEO optimized articles are though but i have been trying to backlink to the homepage and other articles ive written in every post. i italicize keywords or words of the topic/product which is said to help with seo. am i on the right track here?

I order 3 article per week on 1 site. I don't do any backlink at the moment..,

i would suggest you to write 1 article in 2-3 days and before publishing it , do a proofread , if you enjoyed reading it go ahead and publish the article else write a new one . Its all about capturing your visitors and i would suggest you to try and focus on SEO and SMO . Days when you are not publishing articles , work on site promotion etc .

Maybe an article a day, keeps the Big G's red-eye away. Write an article everyday on weekdays and pass on a bit of link juice to it from high PR bookmarking sites (Do-follows will be good) after each post and mix them up like bookmark yesterday's link again after a day or two to make it natural. I do that and working good for me, even with those Big G's animals. Don't do too much, or even neglect to do a bit.

Alright thanks everyone. Judging from what everyone's saying, looks like an article per day/every other day is good enough for now. Certainly 5+ a day is too much! At what point should I start trying to compete with the big boys? When should I start writing 5+ articles a day? Should I base it solely on AdSense money? Again, I'm okay with spending money to make money but I just won't go overboard.

Okay, you can compete with the big boys only when you have enough credibility to grab the brand maker's attention. Like, when a small or a big company launching a product or services approaches you to review their product and the moment you write the title as exclusive to your site and there is only a couple of official reviews on the competitors' sites.

All these suggestions, and really there isn't enough info to make a decision. Seems like if you're getting a decent flow of traffic, giving them more things to read would keep them coming back.

If you have enough content to churn out 2-3 per day, why not do it?

how many articles do you currently have ?

if you already have more then 100 articles then 1 a day should be fine. i think the site needs to be well populated for G to take you seriously, but again i might be wrong

14 high quality a day :)

You will be an authority site in no time - earning $100+ per day on auto pilot.

Is there any technique for fast writing for non-native English language? I heard about copywriting, what it is?

I've already begun receiving items to review and been getting emails asking for reviews.

Time & money. We can easily push out 5 articles a day but who am I writing for? I have to pay my writers because I can't do 5 articles a day by myself. And with $4 an article, the bill will be racking up. I only make about 50 cents a day and sometimes spend $4-12 dollars on articles a day. And since traffic isn't that high, I feel like I'm not writing for anyone.

I currently have 64 articles posted since the start of May.

I just feel weird sitting back and not writing articles when the big boy is pushing out 10+ articles a day. I just don't know if I should wait to rank better first or not. I'll try to find time to do it myself but more suggestions would be great. Remember that I'm actually trying to become a big. Not looking to be on auto pilot. I want to generate money and be a trustable site. Might have no choice but to suck it up and drop the cash.

1 of 350 - 1000w every 3 days works quite well...you can go above, but how i know and how i see, that's almost a waste of your content...just make sure the updates are regular...bif f G loves regular updates..

one more thing..always write as much as you can....if you have time to write more...simply do it..you can always use your extra content to get more traffic ;)
