Im creating Web 2.0 properties. How many articles per property?

Also, are web 2.0 enough to rank a site? What other MANUAL links can I build for my first tier?

Search mate, plenty of info on this forum to supply you with answers.

Try 3-5, link out authorities, have images, videos etc. Drip feed your articles to post with time in between. Pass your link once in the 2nd/3rd article.

3-5 original articles.. doc sites are way to go..
 
I agree with 3-5 also. But to make it more active put an article per week if you can.
 
The more, the better to make it look like a real site managed by real people. They may or may not be enough depending upon your keyword competition, but yes, you need diverse backlinks too. Get links from as many different sources as you can to be on the safe side.
 
My formula:

Article 1: No link
Article 2: Link to authority site
Article 3: Link to money site or to higher tier
Article 4: filler
Article 5: filler
