How many affiliate links on the site?

There are so many updates lately that it made it really hard to know why your traffic dropped. As long as they're all relevant I don't think there's too much you should do on that regard.
From revenue perspective, you should stick to those who work and remove the underperforming ones that get clicks and no conversions.

there's no exact number but 20 is a lot, I'm not surprised that you were penalized 
I've never had more than 3 on a page (no matter how long the content on that page was), but that was 3-4+ years ago, I'm not sure nowadays... But with only 1 link you're probably good

To be honest, I just put any amount I feel is necessary and doesn't look spammy. I don't have a like a set amount.

A limited number like 3-5 is advisable.

From my testing, I found no effect of how many affiliate links you put in your content but 20 still seems to be a lot. Around 10 is sufficient considering that you have at least 200-300 words of content for each link.

You can probably links too much and there's no certain fixed number to say. But, would be better choice is one link per post. You can also avoid looking spammy by linking only to the relevant links.

10-20 links are too many. You can do any amount, but make it very low.
