Hello blackhatters, what do you think? How long would you say is reasonable for an SEO/SMM agency to get you results on your sites and social media growth for a completely new business and also an established one?

We cannot give an exact time frame based on many factors. It may take 3–6 months or even a year. Since Google's algorithms are always evolving, you need to adapt your strategies over time to maintain and improve your results.

Its a vague question. There needs to be some quantification.
 
The result span for SEO and SMM greatly vary. SEO will almost always take a lot more time than SMM.

For SEO: Let's say you are a new startup/new business with a freshly registered domain. It will take you anywhere from 6-12 months to make Google trust your site and start ranking your content (provided it satisfies the basics like search intent/keyword difficulty/etc)

For SMM: An SMM agency can get you 'success' (i.e. a decent no. Of eyeballs and clicks) for a new business in as low as 3 months, provided they are uploading consistently and one or more posts get viral.
 
It depends on many factors such as keywords, serp competition, budget etc.
In my case I got results within four months. But in general, you can expect 6-12 months if your keywords are good and the competition is moderate to low.
 
Its really depends on you, If you do it yourself you need to put high quality content and more Backlinks etc. If you hire someone you need attached a handsome budget. Then the result should shown after 6 to 1year
