Hi,

My website has been hit by an algorithmic penalty about 2 weeks ago. There are no conifrmed updates but I fixed the 2 issues which stood out which was PBN links and low website score on Pagespeed Insights. How long will it take for my website to recover? Can I continue to build backlinks?

Thanks

There's no way around it
Some pages are disappearing occasionally.

I was told I need to continue to build links. I have 50 pieces of content ready to go on the blog of the website I was going to add them to make it look like a genuine website which is regularly updated. I was going to add links to make it look like the website has started to get some interest. Why do you think I shouldn't?

I wouldn't bother investing neither my time nor money in this site unless I see any organic positive changes that are supposed to happen since you already removed the potential harm that caused the penalty. If it won't - nothing will help.

According to my experience, when a site gets hit due to an algo update, it most probably never recovers, at least not in the first 6-8 months. You can try updating older articles, add new articles, build links but you'll probably not see any improvements. If you do, good for you. If you don't, stop investing time, money, and efforts into this site and start a new site.

Are you saying I should start from scratch with a brand new website? I don't have any experience with penalties

It should take you 8 – 10 months to fully recover from a Google Algorithmic penalty.

No one can tell for sure. For now, avoid making new backlinks. If you have the time and money, keep adding content. Otherwise, dump it and start over.

Yup, current-wise Google's Algorithm update impact the SEO rampantly, made ranking fluctuations. Google keeps adjusting its algorithm
Google reiterates the same message on the update roll out - 'Improve your content over time, you can feel confident that your page will eventually recover its position over time as Google recrawls the Web'!
Google's update impact the SEO rampantly, made indexing site time consuming and ranking fluctuations.
Update hit trends about quality contents on ranking algorithm.

Ranking fluctuations suck. I would check and see if you've been hit with a manual action, and also check those pages in 'coverage' and make sure they have not been suddenly excluded. That's if you are using GSC. If you do start over, I would 301 the valuable links to the new site's sub pages. Bummer man!

If you make changes to your website and take care of most issues, it should take you 8 – 10 months to fully recover from a google algorithmic penalty. :p
