How long til penalty reach new domain thru 301?

Recently 301ed a hit site to a new site. How long (guestimate) until the penalty is transferred?

Looking for responses who have done a 301 since 2015 has begun

I dont think penalty passes trough 301.
It would be too easy using it as negative seo.

I guess nobody knows, a buddy of mine 301ed his hit site (from February 2015 until this very moment) to the new website and he has no penalty whatsoever and hes already ranking top 50 on most of his keywords or at least top 100.
I on the other side am afraid to 301 my penalized websites to the new ones. I guess you need to be lucky or it either depends on the reason you got penalized to transfer or not (my friend reason was PBN links, I only had thin content penalty).

Penalty may or may not be transferred, there isnt a fixed rule or time period. Just redirect and work your way through. You could always redirect again if penalty eventually passes.

In the days of c&b with GSA, I used to do this a lot and for me it usually lasted from 3-4 weeks to 7-8. It might have been on every Panda refresh because my anchors were ridiculous. I was using the same content too to add up to the full picture.
