I am trying a seo provider for my website for last 6 months. Results had not been too good. How much should I wait more before switching to new SEO provider?

In most cases, you should start seeing some positive movement within 3 6 months if the strategy is right. If there’s no clear progress, transparency, or plan after 6 months, it’s reasonable to consider switching providers. At the very least, ask for a detailed report and roadmap before deciding.

Months days minutes is not a metric that says anything.

How much was the spend , how much did they do and what did they do.

Even if you only have a superficial idea, let them log their work and then hands on check. If they did everything correct, no need to change.

I mean, every seo strategy should involve a bit of paid ads, if that isn't done or brought no traffic , then look at your conversion strategies and if there's nothing obviously wrong, then you swap the provider.

5 to 6 months is enough to start seeing a good result so if by this time you are not seeing a good result, then you have to try a new SEO provider.

6 months is a solid testing period. If you're not seeing significant improvements by now it might be time to consider switching. Don’t wait too long if results aren’t there.

Six months is usually enough time to see a clear direction, even in competitive niches. You may not be ranking at the top yet, but you should at least see steady improvements like better keyword positions, more relevant traffic, or stronger backlinks.

If results have been flat for months and your provider can’t clearly explain what’s been done, what’s working, and what the next plan is, that’s a red flag. At this point, I’d either demand a detailed progress report with a realistic roadmap or start testing a new provider. Waiting much longer without visible progress usually just wastes time and budget.

Six months is a fair test window. If rankings traffic or strategy clarity aren’t improving by now switching providers is reasonable. SEO needs patience but not blind faith.

If your website has not shown noticeable improvements in traffic, rankings, or technical fixes after six months, that’s typically enough time to evaluate. Request a clear plan with measurable goals from your SEO provider,if they can not demonstrate progress within the next month or two, it is sensible to consider switching to a new provider.

It depends always on your budget but not seeing almost any results after 6 months is kind of bad. I would for sure switch.

In most cases, you should wait 3–6 months before judging or switching to a new SEO provider.
Here’s why:
  • First 1–2 months: research, technical fixes, content planning, and setup
  • Months 3–4: search engines start re-crawling and ranking changes begin
  • Months 5–6: clearer results in traffic, rankings, and leads

After 3 to 4 months, you should see some SEO progress. If results are still weak and there’s no strong improvement plan, it’s reasonable to switch to a new provider as soon as possible.

If you don’t see clear indexing, impression growth, or directional improvement within 60–90 days, it’s usually a sign to reassess or change the SEO provider.

About 6 months is enough time to assess results before switching providers.

Requirment here is clear communication with him. You need to make sure that you do not switch only because of communication gap.

Hello lotsofmoney,

Six months is typically enough time to see at least a positive trend in impressions, even if high rankings aren't there yet. If you haven't seen any tangible growth or clear reporting on the work done, waiting longer is likely a waste of resources. I would suggest auditing the deliverables against their initial roadmap; if the basics are missing, it is definitely time to switch. A fresh pair of eyes can often spot critical issues that were previously overlooked.

there's no need to wait any longer; you should look at the actual signals. If you don't see a clear upward trend in impressions, keyword coverage, or traffic quality, the problem usually lies in the strategy. A good provider should be able to explain why they haven't moved up yet and what adjustments they're making, so I think you might consider switching to a different company

3-6 months. You should see positive results after 3 months and improvement in overall organic traffic after 6 months.
