How long for Google to reflect new meta description?

I changed the meta description on several of my WP blogs (all quite new, created within the lat 10 days) about a week ago, but Google is still showing the old one, which because there was no meta description entered, is just some text from my site.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for this change to be made, or any way I can speed it up?

No idea if your can speed it up, but it usually takes a few weeks for me to show up. On the bright side even though it takes a long time to show up, the Google bots still seem to count it.

Really that long?

Thing is, I set up another WP blog a couple of days ago, and immediately entered the meta description through Platinum SEO, but Google isn't showing it either!
 
no one can accurately say when Google will reflect those changes, try doing a few pings from your website and re-submitting your sitemap (assuming you have one) to Google's Webmaster Tools.
 
Any description changes I have made normally take 48-72 hrs to take effect ... and even then if google decide that they can use a better snippet to describe your site or to reflect the search then it will do that instead ...

Ah that may well be the issue. Since it's a WP site they may think it's better to show snippets of recent posts, when for me I'd much prefer to have my own meta description!
 
Yeah could be that they find you content on the page more relevent than the meta descp

You can check if they have found the new meta descp by viewing the your cached page in google, then viewing the page source of the page.
 
they do not do that. If you specifically specify meta description in your seo plugin then it will use that and NOT "decide" on something different. Just be patient, and as the guy posted above said, ping and resubmit your sitemap to speed up the process a bit
 
Is there any way I can check if the SEO plugin has actually submitted this info? I don't see why it wouldn't, i'm using Platinum SEO, but just to be safe?
 
Browse to the page you want to check, right click mouse button -> view source, check for the existence of the meta-tag description and it's content. If you'll see your meta description there, it means the plugin is working pretty fine !

It's blank! The meta description and keywords!

Edit: There's a separate Platinum SEO meta section which has it all.. so presumably that's fine?

Erm, I wasn't talking about the admin part of the post, but what the user actually views. So, if you're editing the meta tags (from your admin panel) for the page http://www.site.com/A-PAGE you should visit that URL and perform the right click -> view source method.

That's what I meant, I checked my site's main page (http://www.mysite.com) and the meta information is blank, but.. there's a separate section at the bottom called "Platinum SEO Meta" or something similar, and it has it all there...
 
Try switching over from Platinum SEO to All in one SEO pack, I've always used it on my websites and never ran into problems.
