How do you get those followings?

So let's say my niche is very popular on Twitter, with the average target audience being women in her mid 30's-early40's. Let's check out the top influencers, oh look, they share inspirational memes primarily. So, I put up my posts, with featured images of inspirational memes, I set my titles to be complimentary to the meme. I then will set up auto shares of my posts(IFTTT, tweet this post, etc...), I'll also set some ifttt recipes to increase engagement. Maybe setup a hootsuite of 6 months of posts that just share inspirational memes and sayings. And it helps increase engagement.
This takes all of 1hr of my total PBN setup and I don't always do it, but sometimes I know their is a social goldmine out there, so I try to chip a little off for myself, to help my PBN, because who knows, people may find my $ite this way, and now I have a customer.
This won't work with all niches, in fact it won't work with many niches, but some niches just invite this sort of thing. It all comes down to knowing your niche and doing everything you can to own it.
When I build my PBN, I don't just target the main niche, I don't target a low comp keyword with that site, I build the PBN around a low comp sub-niche of the main niche. And when done right, I rank the PBN within the top 10-20 for that sub-niche, and then usually get my $ite on 1-2 and now I own a couple spots that my competitors don't.
Sure, it is slow going, sure, I could do less and crank out more, and get hit and climb back up, but I'm playing the LONG game. I'm working to own the niche, not just the SERPs, but the social, the video, everything. That requires a bigger upfront investment of time.
