How long does a G. penalty last?

Hi,

how long does a Google penalty may last? I know no one can exactly tell how long it takes to recover. But is it a matter of 1 month, 6 months or 1 year? Is it possible that a penalty becomes permanent?

I got hit for being a member of a blog network a few weeks before Penguin became an angry animal fed with spam...

I have heard people discuss penalties on here and saying 30-90 days. This does not include sandboxed sites.
 
Hard to say, i watched on a site which been penalty for over 2 months, and still not sign to recover yet.
 
Preatty much depends on the penality.But if you don't know the exact reason why you've been hit it's preatty hard to recover.

I know the reason: illegal link-building techniques on blog networks :)
 
I got unnatural links penalty on 24th Feb - rankings are still total shite.
 
Im guessing 120 days here....I was nailed on April 23rd, with a nice little letter in my webmaster tools. :clap2:

I guess that would be the worst case scenario, 120 days!!

If you dont recover by then, I would definitely look at replacing the site.:ranger:

If you're lucky enough,you just need to compensate the link juice you lost from the networks.

I've been doing it very carefully using web 2.0s, my own blogs and private blogs I paid for (no networks this time!). Every single post was 100% unique, some of them BLed. Still no results...
 
Some of my sites recovered after 3 months. A lot of my sites are still in the penalty after 1.5 years.
 
In the near past it was enough to get 2-3 strong link from old sites with high PR. Maybe it still works but not sure.
 
Most penalties that I've seen last 30-90 days depending on the severity of why you were penalized.

From what I've seen getting caught using Private Blog Networks is an easy 90 days or longer. After many tests I've found there is very little that can be done to get yourself out of this (although not impossible). Google's been pretty harsh lately, a lot more so than in the past.
 
I have a site that was penalised sometime way back on July 2009 after an xrummer blast.

It is coming to almost 3 years now.

I have another site which has been on manual penalty which is coming to almost year now.

Still penalised.
 
I never blasted my site. To be honest, there wasn't a lot of spam on it. I did many things manually. I even used unique content for BMR. I guess BMR was the most spammy technique on it. I've recently removed my paid blogroll links also. I hope it won't be longer than 90 days. I'm building another website now though. Just in case. If my old website recovers one day, I'll have a nice niche-related site to use for BLs :)
 
its pretty tough to expect recoveries at the moment - while they are really trying to figure out the best way to penalize people.

really probably better to work on content - and simple links --- rather than using tools at the present time.

Google really lost the plot trying to knock out the small guys - as that's what makes the internet - not having Amazon, CNN ranking the whole first page. WebMD seems to be taking over anything medical at this time as well..... sucks atm.
 
Many of my sites still recovering I'm looking for a strategy to bring them back haven't found one yet.
