How long do you usually wait before building links to a new article?

Hey guys,


Something I’ve been thinking about recently while working on a few sites.


After publishing a new article, some people start building backlinks to it almost immediately, while others prefer waiting a few weeks to let the page get indexed and settle first.


I’ve personally tried both approaches and sometimes it feels like letting the page sit for a bit works better, but I’m not fully sure.


Curious how others here usually do it.


Do you start building links right after publishing, or do you wait some time before pushing the page?

I wait a bit till page gets indexed and shows some position then push links.

If you hit it too early it sometimes does nothing, better when it has some base first.
 
I usually wait until the article is indexed and shows signs of stabilizing (around a few days to 1–2 weeks) before starting to build backlinks. This approach helps Google better understand the content first, so the backlinks pointing to it appear more natural and work more effectively, rather than pushing links too early when the page hasn’t been properly evaluated yet.
 
I usually let the article “sit” for about 1–2 weeks after publishing so Google can crawl, index, and make an initial evaluation of the content. During this time, I only do light promotion like sharing on social media or adding internal links. After that, I start building backlinks gradually and scale up over time, since the page is more stable by then and the results tend to be both safer and more effective.

You can wait few months before starting to build backlinks.
 
I usually wait a few days before adding links. I let the article get indexed and stabilize a bit, and then I start with gentle links. Building them on the same day works sometimes, too, but generally speaking, giving it a little “rest” seems safer.

Few months in general. If the targeted keyword is harder, it can take upto an year also.
 
I usually wait a while before aggressively building links for my site because during that waiting period I can assess whether my content is high enough to rank organically. If the article has already reached page 2 or 3 based solely on content, then a few quality backlinks will be an extremely effective weapon to help my article reach the top 1.
 
As a beginner, I usually wait a few days before building links, just to make sure the page gets indexed first. I’m not 100% sure, but it feels more natural that way. Then I try to add links slowly instead of all at once. I think this approach is a bit safer.
 
In 2026, You just need to be smart about how you start. For a new article, you can start almost immediately, but with low-risk links. As soon as it’s indexed, hit it with foundation stuff like social signals, profiles, maybe a couple of web 2.0 links. This helps Google discover and trust the page faster.

I usually let it index first, then start links. Gives clearer signals and works more naturally.
