    Hey BHW,

I was wondering if a keyword can be 'too long' to successfully SEO it. I'm talking about a 5 word phrase to be exact. Is it harder than e.g. a 3 word phrase or it can be done just the same way as any other keyword?

    Thank you for your feedback!

It's called a long tail keyword and they are common.

Long tail keywords are less competition keywords you can rank them easy. Especially when targeting GEO location.

Not if you are trying to rank for "how to lose weight fast" for example.

Long tails are already starting to become difficult to rank specific pages for, the results replaced with authorities on that KW, especially if the authority page contains the exact phrase (or para-phrases) the long tail in question.

It doesn't matter the length of the keyword, what you should be looking out for is the traffic level of the long tail keyword.

That is why one should strive to build an authority type site, there are still tens of billions of long tail keywords left.

Its easier to SEO a longer keyword, and the more words used in the search query, the more likely the visitor is to convert to a customer.....

    Example:
"plumber" - search might be searching for anything related to plumbers, including tools and supplies, or organizations.

"Boston plumber" - this searcher is in a specific area, and much more like to become a customer than the first example, if you are a plumber in Boston.

"24 hour emergnency boston plumber" - this searcher is looking for someone to take their money.

    But there is a caveat:

    IF it gets search volume.

If one is not only putting up lots of articles but long articles 2,000+ in length they will be hitting on many long tail keywords that people search for, those keywords eventually add up to a decent amount of traffic.

I know Google limits the number of words to (if I remember correctly) 10 at absolute max in Adwords. And I feel this is good advice (though even 10 is too many) in organic as well because the longer the phrase the less volume it gets. In PPC it seems that volume bottoms out around 4 or 5 words.
