How long after a backlink gets indexed by google does it start to affect rankings? 1 day? a week? 2 months?

It all depends on the quality of the link man. Nobody can say 100% sure a timeframe. If it's a good PBN/authority link it can get indexed fast by google but in WMT it takes usually over 1-2 weeks to see them. If it is pure spam it can take longer.

. Your backlink will be noticed by search engine immediately someone clink on it. Most backlink are measure base on how it been notice but visitors

can take as long as a domain get indexed if witehat 3 months if black hat 1 to 2 weeks .

this depends on website indexing method

most ppl run there back links Thu a service to get them indexed quick.

you can also ping them to get them indexed quick.

I always wanted to be able to "calculate" the time when my site got affected by the link placement. I did several tests with different money sites, different link qualities and so on. I never was able to know when it will actually get affected. There are so many factors that count.

That depends, google does SERP updates every week

It depends on how quality your links.
If you do tiered link building it index 1 week to 28days - By experience. (gsa ser blast with image comments, forums, article and micro blogs)

If its a PBN link or if you submit to google webmaster near 12 - 24h

Im talking after the backlink has been seen and put up in the index. Basically how long until this will affect rankings, the backlink has already crawled. Does link quality still effect?

From last 6 months- it is taking 25-45 days to see effect. Many times I see effect earlier than 25 days but that is not stable.
I see stable effect in 25 days MINIMUM.
^^ this after I have put my links in any indexing services....

This is about right. Used to be 14 days a couple years back, but now it takes almost a month (or more) to get anything noticeable. I feel Google did this to squeeze link sellers and make it harder for them to show clients quick results.

If your backlink is placed on a webpage crowled weekly, it will be faster than on a page crowled every 4 months by Google...

Ok so index to rank change is about 4 weeks. That kinda sucks, not sure how many links I'll need to rank and wont know if I've hit my goals till 40 days later.

Any tips for hitting rank goals in the first 40 days? To prevent this from happening: Getting backlinks waiting 40, seeing you came up short and getting more backlinks and waiting another 40 seems pretty crazy.

When you first scope out a niche, work out the quality of their backlinks and if they're using a PBN. Let's say you're 100% certain 5 of your PBN's will get you to #1 without a doubt (unlikely). I would aim for 90 days for #1 spot. So I might add my first PBN and see what happens in the first 10-15 days, then drip feed another...etc. I usually ensure I secure the #1 spot by building 1-2 good links more than I might need, to make it more difficult for #2 to get #1.

Agree 100%. I think it was a very intentional move (as in built into Google's algorithms) to make the time from a link being found to that link being given some power (worth, PR, authority, juice, whatever you want to call it).

Doing that would keep SEOs guessing, and unable to figure out if what they are doing with link building is working.

I been saying 4 weeks at the min

I might see a jump after 3 but it wont start to settle after 4

just be patient set it and forget it is what I do

Create a reminder in my outlook to check serp after 4 weeks

I always keep tracking of the ranking the day of the index and check again in a month

Agreed with these two. Mine took a whole month as well.
