I'm currently ranked #2 for this search term (#1 is EMD ccTLD, mine is not even close - #3-5 are net/com/org EMD), so I wonder how possible it would be for me to rank myself as #1? This kw would be pretty much the biggest I have to work on, so I assume that ranking first would nicely increase my traffic and sales. And if not anything else, it would make the current #1 shit themselves for getting dethroned after god knows how many years of domination

The thing is that they got shitloads of backlinks and whatnot, but would I be able to beat them with much, much, much less BL's if they we're very, very good ones?

You most definitely could. If their backlinks are crappy and you get some high pr blog posts you could get #1.

You can get to number 1 if you focus more on getting high PR links. Although you should not neglect quantity as you can see, it clearly helps in getting better rankings.

As both of the previous posters have stated, you definitely need to focus your efforts to attaining high PR backlinks, blog posts are the most effective currently. A significant proportion of their backlinks might be low PR and so providing negligible benefit to their ranking, with a bit of work it is certainly possible for you to rank #1.

i recommend buying high pr blog post links :D

this will take you to the next level..

Well, you can give them always the good old pornsite backlink blast.

As far as I know Backlinks from high PR websites only count if you are on the page with the actual PR. (which most of the time is the homepage) So if you create a sub-page it will be obviously PR-0, therefore it wont count.

Dont take my word for it though, but thats what I`ve read here and there :D

This might not be the answer your looking for but it true. With hard work and persistence anything is achievable.

Sure, it's just that going head-to-head with guys that have 10yo website with my 10mo old one makes me really the underdog. But granted I've made it to #2 in this time I try to stay positive that I'll make it ;)

Just wouldn't like to take big risks with website that nets me mid-$xxxx monthly ;)

Never sweat the the competition. Work on ranking the site. Even if you cant get number 1, you aren't going to dump the site are you? If you re going to keep the site anyway, try to rank it and see how good you are.

Succeed or fail, you will learn valuable lessons from it.

You should be able to get #1 but it will take some time and many backlinks.
