How is this guy ranking so high?

I've come across so many of his articles ranked #1. Low DA, no backlinks, and content is directly copy/pasted from Amazon product descriptions... What am I missing here? These are competitive keywords he's crushing too

That site has a lot of relevant backlinks and DA is not that poor.

What tools are you using to analyze this?

I meant backlinks to articles, not site, sorry. I see some interlinking done, but there appear to be much stronger sites falling victim to him. I'm using semrush and ubersuggest

Amazing site, I would say some sites will always have their own magic time, no matter what u think...maybe some really awesome UI can trigger that "hidden whitelist"...no idea how Google regards these sites, pure algo miss or really some hidden triggers...

Just checked it and I see few decent backlink with huge DA (60, 80, 76, and many more). Not sure how you didn't see the backlinks :/

1) High topical relevancy - gifts
2) Most of them aren't that competitive. "gifts for best friends" is low comp. A lot of them are low comp. Look at the garbage ranking

No wonder he's got the rich snippet.

3) Lots of strong contextual links.
4) 200+ RDs.
5) Good anchors. Lots of single words and lsi's
6) He's not copy and pasting from amazon. Those kind of short reviews work well for gift type products.

and 7) Don't share people's sites, jeeeez. How would you like it? He's probably invested several grand in that, and you've come along and just outed him on a mega forum.

Agreed. The website looks great in my opinion and has a ton of content. I don't see why it shouldn't rank well.
