How is this EMD beating me?!

Ok so a month or 2 ago I was ranking decently for some keywords. Now some EMDs have come out of nowhere and started shitting on me. I really don't understand. Everything I compare between our sites mine is always on top. My content is rich and lengthy. My backlinks are numerous and of quality. Here's a SEOMOZ comparison.

The left site is me, the right is them.

What could these EMDs be doing that's working so well? I even have quality social signals on my pages. Is there something I may have missed that could be hindering my rankings?

Are the EMD's local in nature? In other words, do they have cities or states in the names? Have seen those still performing even after the EMD update. Other than that, they likely could have links from sites or even a network that is blocking the Rogerbot. Check a few different indexes and see if the sites still have crappy profiles.

Nope, they are Global keywords. I've looked at majesticseo profiles too and I just can't seem to figure it out. I see 1 press release site article, and a feedburner link. That's it!

Most of the time they have links from high pr sites that don't show up in Moz, Majestic, Ahrefs, etc... They are hidden to bots except Google.

So they have more/better links than you.

but how could one go about hiding their backlink information?

by cloaking but it's a double edge

axe. if a competitor finds some of your links and reports you... you can kiss your rank goodbye

you can usually find hidden links by using link:domain and finding pages that don't appear to have links to them, then go back to the serp and view the cached page and search for links again

if a link appears in the cached result and not for you... there are 2 possibilities... the link was removed / cloaking

Your site has a penalty.

Spend some decent time analysing on site and off site factors to determine the cause and the put a plan together to resolve it.

Is it a decent EMD (lot's of content, etc.) or rather a micro niche site? Because, unlike what most people claim, EMDs still have a slight advantage in my point of view. Not like it used to be but a nicely build EMD with lots of quality content and a healthy backlink profile have been kickin' back up since the last update
