Well, there are two kinds of competitors:
#1 The one that gets curious and posts everything on BHW asking "how he did it". He will eventually burn the method sooner or later.
#2 The one that does his own research and if it's done right, he will find competitors method that he can replicate to get succeed OR even overtake his competitor.

Well, guess which one is better and will most likely succeed. But yeah, you are 100% right => it's better not to go public with yet non-public methods => they will last longer or forever.

Actually its exactly because of such websites - John Mueller answered a question about Bing once, something along the lines "We do not care about Bing (or any other competitor) at all, our main focus is fighting web spam". Websites like the ones OP mentioned litter the web search results which basically kills Google - if you consistently get such results, you will stop using Google, is simple as that.

Actually I don't mind outing such sites. They have exactly zero value for anyone, but the owner and are actually harmful and pretty much illegal. They make our job harder so I don't mind getting them all killed.

Actually I don't mind outing such sites. They have exactly zero value for anyone, but the owner and are actually harmful and pretty much illegal. They make our job harder so I don't mind getting them all killed.

um as long as its not a network with hacked sites, these sites are not illegal at all. they are against the google ToS, but thats it.
they can also have value. user searches for some product, site redirects him to a landing page for that product. no harm done to anyone.
its no different than someone building a blog with the intention to just have the users click on the advertising banners. why not just send them directly to the landing page by cloaking? ;)
i mean all affiliate sites just want users to click or view the ads. if you just wanted to provide information, you wouldnt put any ads on a site.

Well in this case is entirely stolen content (illegal) sending to harmful websites that can infect your PC (again, illegal). So they did not offer any value to anyone, but rather making Google more and more strict which hurts everyone else, including us.

They have around 5 mill pages in index - so I assume that there is no "secret" in their rankings - Other than a shit load of scraped content that are cloaked.

He was not sending anyone to websites that would infect your PC. It was crypto campaigns in most cases, which can cause you to lose some money, but that's all.

Google is more and more strict because it want to throw only relevant content to your search query. If there is a cloaked website which will redirect you to a pet accessories shop while your search query was "muzzle for a dog", there is nothing bad with it. You got redirected to a pet accessories shop where you can buy / find muzzle for a dog.

On the other hand, scammy websites was and will be there forever. There will always be a way to fool big G, to cloak and to successfully use pure shitty content and rank better than whitehat websites for some time.

Well both Chrome and Mozilla refused to open like 10 of his URLs because they was trying to inject shits so there`s that.

didnt look like there were any malware campaigns. sure malware is illegal, but it looked like standard crypto spam, which is not illegal.
maybe some spam filters blocked it for you, but i didnt see any malware and i come from a security background. i do security research since the 90s.
if there was i would have analyzed it.

It was strange actually - when open the page via say link from Ahrefs -> it worked fine and showed me this silly image, however when go there from Google the malware protection went on. Did not really care to continue after that..
 
might have been a flase positive due to the redirect. it wasnt done very clever, so maybe the attempt got flagged.
 
This is one of those systems that makes me $2 billion per year. Please remove this thread!!!
 
Funny how an Amazon wanna be website from my country called Emag does similar shit to this and nothing happens to it. Maybe because Emag.ro pays millions of $$$ in G Ads per month?

Bassicaly they auto generate meta titles and descriptions for any keyword imaginable in my language and display metas like: "Are you searching for nuclear weapons? Visit Emag....."

And you guest it, they rank for almost everything in top 10.

It worked and it will work. It is something like hacking into someone's account or simply bruteforcing. You have 2FA, Captchas to slow you down, Akamai and some other shit and you can still get around it. If there is a security system, there is also someone else that will eventually get around it. The same goes for Google and AI in my opinion. Spam for mass scale will work too => you just have to be smart in 2021 to get people click and engage into your spam.

I often visit this site, but do not post that often.. I was curious to find out if there was an answer to how the could rank that fast - Besides cloaking the content - they build some links, but not that many.

The sites get reported alot, because they steal the content, from many sites. it´s not the first site that is deindexed, using the same approach.

Their main goal is to scam people - So fine by me, that they get deindexed :)

There is an answer how he can rank that fast for sure. With question comes answer. Just no one will point it out there because it is pointless to do so. Isn't it better to just keep this knowledge?
He may be using really powerful PBN, who knows. If he does so, there is nothing spectacular, just time and knowledge to build that strong PBN. Or maybe he found another way to gain rank so fast. If he did, keeping this knowledge is golden for his business or for someone that also found this way.

Also, I don't think that it gets reported because of the content. Site owners from whom this content was stolen can only see ~160 chars of it from meta description. They can't even see the cached version of mentioned there website => they can't see the full content. I think if it gets reported, it is because of the crypto campaigns that he promote.
