i cant post links so the hosting company im talking about is 1and1 , they offer 1$ for a .com domain registration....
what's the CATCH?
this is ridicously low and i dont see any one recommending to buy from them..

A domain costs like 18 cents to register with IANA

And the catch is that it costs 10 bucks (average market price) to renew or something like this

Have you been living under a rock? 1and1 are pretty popular, and they suck. The $1 is only for .com domain names and it takes about 24 hours for them to set up the domain for you and nameserver changes etc take forever to be effective as well, don't go with them, use coupons with godaddy and you'll get domain names for 99 cents, Godaddy sucks too but are way better than 1and1 when it comes to 99 cents domain names.

It's like print cartriges. They could give out the printers for free and still profit. Domains are dirt cheap. They grab new customers then next year you mean profit.

1and1 is well known name in this industry and this type of offer is common on domain registers, they will charge more than $10 on next year renewals .

I remember that Network Solutions offered 1 cent .com's a while ago lol

They've come a long way since the 1990's monopoly on hundred dollars .com's

I use fatcow hosting, and they give me free domain when I get hosting. :D though, I never use the free and I use godaddy for all my domains. :D I never use same account for hosting as well as domain.

- THe benefit of fatcow hosting is that, every few month they offer you a second account at 1 dollar per month. :D I use it and when my old hosting expires, i use that offer, and few months later i receive the offer again and I use it again, lol :D

I do want to purchase from godaddy but their id protection costs 7$..

Namecheap has free domain protection and SSL (if memory serves right) for just 10 bucks

free domain protection isn't included with renewals though, namesilo includes this and is slightly cheaper.
Is that a recent change? Because I remember renewing a domain this year and the whois protection it's still there, it wasn't even mentioned in the invoice

$1 domains is nothing new, even over priced godaddy gives $1 domains with a coupon

also forgot to mention, i want to transfer the domain to hosting i bought from another company, is thsi gonna cost me more money?
and ID protection only protect my personal information or some more security to the domain? i mean i can just put fake info?

1&1 sucks big time. Better go with Godaddy and use a coupon to get cheap .com registration. I would not go with 1&1 even if they offer free registration.
