1&1 is offering .com domain registration for $0.99 for the first year, or so they say.

Anyone have any experience with their domain registration or hosting?

I have bought two domains with them and have nothing good to say about them. For a start for some unknown stupid f*****g reason, they do not take the payment off you until they decide some three to four weeks later, then if you are unfortunate enough to not have the money when they decide to get round to taking the money, they hijack your domain and hold it at ransom for some ridiculous late payment fee. My advice, stay well away.

I would suggest you not to go with 1-1 as i had tried it personally

Preferable go with Godaddy

Its better than anyother ...cant say its the best but preferably better than others..

Their forum is full of people complaining about their hosting services, downtime and other issues.
My personal experience: I bought a domain with them (they had this 1.99 offer) and then it took a week and a half just for them to change my nameservers so I could transfer the domain.

Wouldn't recommend.

Black Friday is the upcoming Friday, so I'd guess that every registrar and their grandmothers are having a sale, so save your pennies for GoDaddy or Namecheap - the latter being a better choice if you're in need for private WHOIS info for free/cheap.

I have heard nothing good about 1and1. They are cheap but do not seem to be worth it. I have never used them though so I don't have a personal experience with them, but I'm going to take the word of those who say to stay away from 1and1. I have used GoDaddy and Namecheap though. Both are good options but I personally am not too fond of GoDaddy.
 
I am using them since last 4 years or so and I've never faced any issues whatsoever.
 
Sorry to disagree, my experience has been rather good, with them. I grabbed the free domain that they provided me. There wasn't a single problem faced in 11 months, and I had been able to transfer the domain to godaddy, without a hiccup. I hope it helps :)
 
if you buy the domains, disable renewal and move away from them you should be ok, if you wait for renewal you could get invoices with 3 months prior to expiration and attempts to charge your CC. at least that is what happened to me
 
Just cancelled my contracts with 1&1. You never know when they are going to bill you. Stupid way of working..
 
I at one time had bought over 75 domain names from them but have since transferred all domains to GoDaddy. Reason being is that even though they are cheaper than GoDaddy, it would take so long for the domain names to settle with the servers. In some cases it took up to 72 hours for everything to propagate correctly, whereas it took only a few minutes do the same thing with GoDaddy. So all in all it's really a matter of preference because it's not like their service was bad. It's just that I'd rather pay more money for this service for the convenience of me being able to have a domain name tied to an actual website a whole lot quicker.
