I am trying to wrap my head around "authority" when it comes to websites. I know if you get enough good links to your site, it will develop some authority in Google. I am assuming the benefit of that is when new pages or posts are added, they will rank pretty high off the authority of that website.

The question I want to know is which one would be more beneficial. Spendign the time trying to get authority for a given site or building links for a given page that you want to rank for? I mean the answer is obvious, but I am trying to wrap my head around Authority.:D

The best way would to be to build links for a given page, by using authority sources. This way each page gains authority, which in turn brings up the authority of your site.
