There is a lot of debate around the importance of topical relevance when evaluating backlinks. Would you prefer a link from a moderately authoritative website that is closely related to your niche, or a link from a highly authoritative website that has little topical connection to your business?

Topical relevance/clusters, have a much stronger signal when you have a standalone blog as traffic hub. Not all on one domain with mishmash content= website your business content and services and a blog about similar topics like leadership, this is content mishmash.

I’d usually take the moderately authoritative site if it’s strongly relevant to the niche.
A high authority link is nice, but topical relevance makes the link look much more natural and useful. Ideally, though, a mix of both is best.
