This is an example niche.

Lets say my niche is Runescape Accounts and I am trying to get it ranked on google and lets say this is my url
RunescapeMemberships.com

I am trying to get Accounts ranked but Memberships is the domain. Will that effect it ALOT? I know it will have some effect. But say they search for Runescape Memberships mine will still show up although it is accounts right?

Domain name has very little effect nowadays. Exact match domains used to give an extra boost to your rankings, but that is arguable now. Sure if you have a keyword in the domain it will help a little, but there are so many more factors to SEO and the Google algorithm now that it's really not a big deal.

In fact, Google now prefers "brands", than stuffing keywords in the domain name. Look at sites like: Facebook, Yahoo, Google, Amazon, Youtube etc... Their domain name says very little about what the website is about. It's the content on the site that really matters. And the keywords used onsite and offsite of course.

I totally agree with sitemaster...the keyword domain helps you only in the initial steps when you're not so popular and may bebefit from random people searching for your keywords. After a while, it all saturates and makes no big difference wether your domain is a brand name or a keyword/phrase. And in my opinion, people trust brand names more than keywords (If you wanna sell something to them)

No impact if any dont worry about it. Just to give you idea I own farmville.ws domain I dont rank for farmville and their are sites that rank for farmville and dont even have farmville in the domain its all about links!

alright.. thank you guys.. now I have to decide whether or not to buy backlinks for keywords that have 2m+ search results

From my experience, having the keyword in the domain still has a positive impact. Its not quite as much as before, but it definitely has an impact.

Still a positive but definitely not a requirement.

Always buy by looking at the link profile. I have few of these type of domains. Let me know if you are interested in buying as they are not cheap.

Don't worry much about the domain, concentrate on your site content.
