How important is a pages PageRank when looking for backlinks?

Eg: If i was to have a backlink from a pagerank 4 site - but the site was related to my content...

Compared to a PageRank 5 backlink - from something completely unrelated...

What would increase my SERPS more?

It's really hard to say. PR isn't all that important to the algorithm anymore, but it's a good way to estimate the value of a link.

Relevance is hard to judge too. A really good way to spot a good link is to check whether the page the link is on ranks high for your target keyword. I've spent hours coming up with ways to get a single link from top 5 pages in my niche and it can be worth a first page ranking.

i dont know exactly how it works
i only know that if you put your link in a website with high Pagerank, your site will get high pagerank too

PR is not overall game other factors matter alot

1-site authority
2- domain age
and many others...

PR only passes PR, nothing more. If you wanna rank, get links based on relevance, age, TLD (.edu, .gov, etc), and so on, and get a LOT of friggin links with good anchor text.

Page rank always was, and always will be a big friggin sham. I've seen plenty of PR0s beat out PR7/8 sites.

altough most dont take it into consideration anymore, PR is more important than ever to the visibility of the backlink

Yes, a link from a high PR page helps ranking more, but every honest backlink helps. And today's low PR page can grow into a powerhouse in the future.

Even more, toolbar PR only gets updated every 3 months or so, and it may not be a good indicator of the page's ability to drive actual traffic - and after all, that's the real goal.

But sometimes PR is not important, keywords are the real deal if you wanted to be at the top try to spin your article

Google uses a vast array of factors to determine the serp shifting power of a link.

The backbone at the bottom of it all is PR. It's the most important factor regarding link power.

PR has nothing to do with rank, as PR 0 sites can best pr 8 sites in the results. Instead, it's an indicator of node importance. The largest nodes are more "important" and so a link from them is more important.

Plenty of other factors apply but the most important root factor is PR.
