How important is domain authority when you try to promote a website?
Let's say for example you have a keyword and the first 10 have DA of above 50 but very few links and low quality..

Authority domains certainly stands a better chance of ranking on Google than new domains.

The DA simply tells you the strength of the page.
If you can't see an established incoming links then
you are likely not to get any result from your effort.

Can you explain more please?

Google says "it's just one of over 200 signals" and that it doesn't matter that much. But the dominance of Amazon and YouTube pages in the SERPs says otherwise.

Sorry, OP... I'm afraid google doesn't use DA or PA when ranking websites.

Domain Authority has no impact for ranking a website. It is a Moz metrics. We can just use it as a comparative metrics between different websites.

OK, so DA and PA is not important at all when ranking..even if is very high?
So why is it good for? for inbound links?

It's one of the major pieces of the Google algorithm. I am sure the importance depends on competitiveness of the area. I agree with pxoxrxn, if you do you searches for many products, Amazon will be in top 5 with the lowest PA and DA of 9. Meaning they have the lowest page authority and the domain is pulling it the product that high in the search. There are obviously many other minor factors, however, from what I see in my area DA is still important. The page on Amazon will only have the product name and title and the rest of the items might be generic or missing. Google can't say it's a page with good, unique content.

The metrics from Majestic on trust flow and citation are also very good and worth researching. And always do your own testing/research because your area might be different. There are many free sites and toolbars to help you see the patterns of how pages are getting to the top of your type of searches.

So when I want to rank a site, how much to consider the DA and PA?

DA may have an impact but what matters most is your page level authority coming from strong backlinks.

With even the dropping of upgrades to PR by Google, DA would soon turn into one of the key metric to gage the nature of your site, frequently required by sponsors. . . There are no approaches to amusement the framework now and it is currently level ground for all the online distributers. . .

Google will begin rebuffing fast fire visitor posts in the forthcoming calculation overhauls, it has get to be harder for substance designers to rank better with not very impressive substance. . .DA is another metric used to comprehend the execution of your site and it is viewed as critical, as simply prefer Google, it is difficult to impact that metric and it takes a great deal of variables under thought before ascertaining your DA score. . .

Moz have lost the standing they once has accurately measuring a sites ranking potential. It is very convenient to have thier tool bar but they are simply not accurate. Ahrefs is much better
