Some years ago, it was actually somewhat important to focus on DA/PA.
Lately, it has since turned around and become of less importance because it can be gamed/faked. DA is a Moz metric. Last year, I was reading an article/case study about boosting your DA in 2 weeks.
Google itself doesn't use DA to factor anything in their ranking algorithm. I believe it's a metric only Moz & certain SEO tools use, but it doesn't represent real value to anyone with background knowledge in SEO. Or at least, it shouldn't.
I would suggest putting more value in building a strong, large backlink profile. Ensure you have a large number of referring domains to accompany your number of backlinks. Try for a 1:1 ratio.
Ahrefs has a similar system to Moz, except it factors in more relevant, modern metrics in calculating DR/UR.

DA from Moz or DR from Ahrefs is only important with a clean Backlink Profile. But that is one factor a lot people give a shit on it.
They think its only important to have a high metric and buy shit links with no relevance.
I have a lot of websites, one is a local gold buying Business, with a DR of 8. My Compeitiors have a DR of 30 but only with Shit links on not relevant Pages and in different languages like chinese or russian for a German Website. I rank with all my articles better than them.

Well it depends upon how you plan to go about it.
DA and DR are the indicators which not necessarily define the quality of the website, they are just an indicators which you can refer to see if the domain is trustworthy or not. It has NO impact on traffic and rankings though.
If you want to see backlinks in your website then it is good to work on the DA, DR of your website and improve it so that you can sell backlinks for higher price.
In reality I have few sites that have DA less than 10 but fetch more traffic than the ones those have DA greater than 35.
So clearly, it is a matter of keywords, content and the number / quality of backlinks that your site have.

Not so important. While there's correlation between ranking and DA, it is not always the case for all sites. So it's not as important as lots of people make it seem.

Keep the focus on content quality, and referring domains. People prefer DR over DA these days.
