Is it just to entertain the people that follow the page, or does it result in your FB page ranking higher on google or something? What's the benefit of it, and should I actively take time to post on a FB page after making one?

Quality Posting > Active Page > Active Users > More Likes > More Traffic.

Your facebook page doesn't have much impact on google ranking. Posting a lot is only worth, if you have a lot of followers. If you don't, build a fanbase first because that's the problem with FB: outside the fanbase your posts don't get much attention.

But how do you build a fanbase without posting a lot?

you mean FB pages dont rank on google?

what I mean by that: keep your content for when you have a huge fanbase. you do need a decent amount of posts already to get a fanbase - noone would follow you when you have zero posts. but if you post too much and don't have enough followers you will fire with big guns at pigeons.

I had a few pages and not many followers, posted a lot (2-5 times/day) but in the end each post didn't get many views. I'm just saying: keep it to 1 post a day till you have decent fanbase and then constantly post a lot (2-5 times daily). The sad thing with facebook is: if you don't have many followers, you don't get many views!

that's not what I mean, sorry for my English ;-) I mean that your Facebook page and the amount of followers/likes doesn't have much impact on your Google ranking. Google doesn't care much about your fans, only if they share something elsewhere and you get backlinks to your site.

Some FB pages rank very high on Google. It depends on many factors that are not very transparent, but having a solid base of fans that is growing constantly seems to be one important point.
