How important is blogging for boosting target keywords?

If i really want to get a specific page on my site to #1 on Google, does blogging to much to help? Say I write a daily blog related to my target keyword, will this make my site appear more relevant to the target keyword and improve rankings?

Say I have a site about DIY and I want to promote "find a plumber". The site itself isnt dedicated to plumbing. If i write blog posts about plumbing and link them to my "find a plumber" page will it benefit the ranking of that page or will i need to get backlinks to my blog posts for it to provide any befit to my money page?

whoa first of all, if you are blogging everyday using your main keyword then you will most likely be penalized or not ranked very highly. What is more recommended is getting long tail kwds from your target keyword and blog about those long tail keywords while linking your inner pages. You'll eventually get there but it takes time and you have to build quality links too

First off 'huge amount'? If blogging generated a huge amount of traffic, why would anyone bother with backlinks and targeting keywords. If I write blog posts that do not rank well or rank for a low volume keyword, theres going to be no traffic. This wasn't the question anyway.

What I am asking is will blogging about a niche boost the site and all other keywords overall because Google will see the site as a specialist on the subject or do the blog posts need to interlink with the money page
