How important is an Avatar?

On other webmaster related forums i sell digital products, provide services and wonder how much your avatar matters. Do you think its important to have a serious type avatar, what would look good for selling and providing a service? I have good iTrader and lots of posts, but sometimes wonder if i should take my avatar more seriously.

I don't think your avatar would change my mind about buying your service or not.
Maybe only if it's your own face and you look... shady

I take my avatar very seriously, as you can tell by the expression on my face (my current avatar).

Your avatar is the most important business decision you can make. You need an avatar before you need a product.

depending on the product you want to sell and the forum you want to sell on.. i think it's quite important to have the right avatar..

i dont think anybody here would mind your avatar when you sell something.. but it will matter in other places

'...It is said that a picture tells a thousand words and, from a marketing point of view, I know this to be true.

You can tell more with an image than the best copywritten text.

Generally Avatars on forums add to the fun but if you are doing business and want to be taken seriously your Avatar should reflect your seriousness.

In your position I would design a logo for your digital products business and use that as my Avatar also using it on emails, websites and other communications'.

Its very important in my honest opinion, Its like a face for your name. If its something funny i can sort of understand your sense of humor, and mostly what kind of guy you are just by looking at it

Very Important.

I wanted to be different, so I found something unique, I can't imagine being wizard #856. It's all about branding, I even bought tilt4832.com

Also my software shows me what people are looking at on my posts and I think it's funny how many people can't keep their eyes off my ass. :chairshot
