How important is amazon as a reference point?

For example, could I rely on the data amazon gives in terms of seller competition, sales velocity, and the average selling price for a item across all their listings and asses that would make a good product for my shopify site? The reason I ask is because amazon is a lot more transparent with this info then other marketplaces and I was wondering if it is useful for dropshipping.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Yes, you can use Amazon's data on competition, sales velocity, and average selling price as a useful reference for dropshipping. However, remember that Shopify’s audience may differ, so consider cross-referencing with other platforms to get a fuller picture of demand.

I am cross referencing with FB ads library as well and to a lesser extent with shopify using Koala inspector, I was just curious how much weight amazon holds for dropshipping data and if there are other people on here who use them as their main source. Thanks!

It's a good indicator I use a lot too. I do it reverse though. I'll find good products on Google and then see how much it is to import from China for AZ.

I would personally use TikTok Shop

Amazon can be a valuable reference for assessing market trends, competition, and pricing due to its transparency, but for dropshipping, also consider Shopify-specific demand, supplier reliability, and platform differences.
