How important are meta tags

Hi Guys

I set up a blog a while back and have been looking at doing on page seo, ive realised that there is no place to enter meta tags so was wondering, is there a must have meta tag plugin for this or are keywords not important enough these days that they are not required?

Any advice is always appreciated.

I dont think they are important I could rank a keyword with 70k exact searches without meta tags.
 
Wordpress ? Try all in one seo/yoast/seoppressor. Theres lots of options.....I use All in one. Not all search engines value the meta tag anymore but your titles are very important.

Scrubtheweb.com has a decent free meta tag analyser.
 
Meta tags are no longer relevant to Google, but yeah I use SEO by Yoast, it rocks!

Next step is offline seo (ive created several related articles, one of which i published today) im thinking about blasting loads of links to them using a fiverr gig as i dont quite have the funds to get my own software as of yet.
 
Yeah...dont do that.. A couple of hand picked links done manually will be better for you than a fiverr xrumer blast. Have a look in the search area for second and third tier and web 2.0s

And I agree with Duffers5000, look here first for your backlinks, cheaper too in some cases.
 
Put meta tags on your todo list, but not above content, titles, images, social media or backlinks

It's not something you should be losing sleep over. Focus on your titles, images and promoting your site/content with social signals and link building.

Meta tags aren't important for getting your website ranked but yes, it is important when a query occurs in search result. Click through will be identified by meta description only. Description gives an user to click the website and get into it.
 
Lots of people are saying that meta tags are not an important but still some of them using it because they believe that sometimes it may helpful.

So as per my view title is the most important factor.
