How important are links in a LOCAL SEO campaign?

If I wanted to optimize a website of a local business to appear in the 7 local listings that appear when you type in a local keyword, should I bother with setting up a campaign that deals with a link pyramid with tier 1, tier 2, tier 3 links? Or should I just focus more on local citations, content creation, and things like that?

the answer is both- you can get good local organic ratings above the 7 pack or 3 pack or whatever goog wants to do for that day- the 7pack will change alot if your keeping score, good organic rankings will stick if done right. If your building citations, one of the top guys in the bizz is Broland.

Can you tell me more about broland? Is he a user here? Just searched his user name and didn't get any results. Did a quick google search as well with no luck.

And in my opinion your website could use some more work.
Didn't really peek my interest at all. No prices or packages. You should also do more to establish yourself as an authority on the topic.

Nothing fishy, just one of our many satisfied customers giving me a mention. We are constantly working on the website and I appreciate any detailed input, aside from vague suggestions like "could use some more work". There are 3 services on the website with prices and fully functioning checkout, not sure how you would have missed that...

You need citations, if you don't know what they are then you need to look around.
 
Whitesparks local citation finder is great and only costs $20 a month. Although be prepared to spend a lot of time doing boring citations
 
Local Business SEO is the way local companies reach organic traffic from their Google Search & the visitors reach them even they are not doing high potential SEO for their sites.

So its one of the ways people use it & presently milliions of webmasters are deploying this strategy.
 
get lots of citations, get more reviews than your competition, and optimize your Google Business listing with more pictures and videos than your competition.
